Hinterland Village is a small retreat centre in Kerala dedicated to creating an environment where people can step away from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with themselves.
Surrounded by nature and guided by a simple daily rhythm, Hinterland brings together nervous system-informed practices, classical yoga, Ayurveda, nourishing food, therapeutic rest and personalised guidance in one integrated experience.
Rather than offering one-size-fits-all programmes, we believe every person arrives with a different story, capacity and intention. Our role is to meet you where you are and support a process of genuine restoration, greater awareness and lasting wellbeing.
Whether you join us for seven days or three weeks, our intention remains the same: to create the conditions in which you can move from constant vigilance towards greater steadiness, adaptability and participation in life.
Our retreats offer you a chance to discover the real meaning of Yoga, which is much more than a series of physical postures. Yoga is a way of life, and our vision is to share the teachings and philosophy of Yoga to promote a holistic way to health and wellness as well as medicinal Ayurveda treatments in the purification of body and mind.
Retreat with us to immerse yourself in traditional Hatha Yoga practice. Allow yourself the time to reflect on the connection between the physical, mental and spiritual facets of the self whilst nurturing your connection with the divine, the environment and other people.
Practicing Yoga, we expand our consciousness by breaking free from the habitual patterns of the mind. Our intention is to illuminate the way forward for you by offering our knowledge, practice and support to transform your lifestyle, so you can bring harmony and peace into your life once more and maintain your balance upon returning home.
All of our retreats include personalized Ayurvedic consultations, massage, steam bath treatments, Yoga philosophy and cooking classes for those wanting to take home the exotic taste of Kerala. Guests will enjoy three vegetarian, nourishing meals daily as well as snacks, fresh juice, tea and coffee.

Our accommodation provides you all the warmth and care that remind you of home with the added luxuries of an eco-resort. Each of the available rooms are different and offers a unique blend of antique charm and modern comfort. Single and double rooms are available. All rooms are air conditioned and offer stunning views of the surrounding greenery.

Our organic farm provides us with a variety of homegrown vegetables, fruits, nuts and herbs which are used in the kitchen and transformed by our chef into soul nourishing foods.

A collage of greens strewn with a million hues. A symphony of nature played by the birds, leaves and the bamboos. The music of stillness and solitude. Not to mention the chorus of geese and a whole lot of pets that dwell happily in the Village. The feel of grass crushing, leaves crunching and twigs snapping beneath your feet. The smell of fresh earth and the flavour of herbs and spices. The Village manages to cast a spell around all your senses.
In 2007 when founder Unni visited this piece of land, it was a neglected 7 acres of incredibly unkempt rubber plantation and unwanted weeds. In this rich though untended soil, Unni saw his chance to grow his dreams - dreams of working with nature, creating a better environment for the life on this land, and create a space for spiritual growth, yogic practice and cross cultural experiences.
From farming to waste management, all our activities are pursued with a holistic approach and social responsibility. The supplies for the kitchen are organically grown on our own land. Additional supplies are procured from nearby farmers and food producers.
The estate has been planted with specially considered vegetation that grows well and also enriches the biodiversity of the estate.
The effects of our sincere and single-minded efforts can be seen in the vast variety of birds, butterflies and other native species that have found their home in Hinterland Village. There are more than 54 species of birds, including some migratory ones, and more than 20 species of butterflies, including seasonal varieties, along with Asian palm civets, mongooses, flying foxes and also snakes.
