Children's One Day Retreat - To commence from July 2019

A Space to Grow

Children, they definitely are the Future, without them, today’s wiser endeavours wouldn’t prevail. Children, also, many a time, are better guides. Their instincts are sharper and they see many essential aspects of life that we as adults inevitably grow blinkers on. However, they need support, to sustain their innate wisdom, to always see the world for what it is, to ask the right questions and to not believe it when they hear the false answers.
With the help of mentors and mediators, here at Livity, the children will have the opportunity to think out of all syllabuses, interact with the nature and learn to listen to their inner quiet narratives.

One Day; Being One

The main aim of the One Day Retreat is to open the doors to sustainability, through creative ways and encourage the children to learn practical life skills that are integral to our day-to-day life. It is not education that we intend to offer but the mere experience of positively engaging with each ones surroundings.
The main take away from the retreat would be the deep awareness that the only way to be a good human is by being a good member of the ecosystem that we inhabit.

  1. The Day Out would span from 9.30am to 4.00pm.
  2. Maximum of 50 participants would make a Day.
  3. Participants can be between the age of 6 and 17.
  4. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
  5. Mentors would interact and guide the participants throughout the Day.
  6. If the participants are brought by a School, the teachers shall accompany them.

In order to be flexible and grow, we avoid following a fixed list of activities. We constantly improvise and attempt new ideas, however, the following are the general themes with which we work.

  • Creative exercises like painting, clay modelling, various DIY ideas for re-use of waste materials, spontaneous nature art.
  • Storytelling sessions where the power of words and emotions are touched upon.
  • Life skill sessions where the basics of various day-to-day essentials are conveyed through practical demonstrations- electrical, plumbing, carpentry, waste recycling, water recycling, compost ideas and various kinds of farming techniques.
  • Backyard produce making sessions- organic paper making, paper bag making etc.
  • Theatre workshops, Fine Art and Children's installation ideas.

The day will not be loaded with activities. We want the child to breathe, to take in the surroundings, to think and to listen to her inner quiet narratives.

The Day Retreat needs three main aspects to make it a success.

1. The Children, of course.
2. The mentors.
3. And then, volunteers.

The Children

We mostly work with School groups.

But really, nothing matters. If you are interested, we have a spot for you.
Let us know your needs and we can sort it out.

The Mentors

We have in-house mentors who are always available and then there are visiting mentors from different professions.
Do you think you would be able to work with children?
Do you have a skill that you think would benefit sharing?

Let's talk

We want to build a community of people who understand and value the essence of living sustainably. Who are capable of sharing and learning from each other. Your age doesn't matter. Your language doesn't matter but it would help if you are fluent in English and Malayalam. What matters is your vision.

What we seek in a volunteer:

  • Have a balanced temperament.
  • Have at least one skill that you are confident sharing.
  • Have compassion.
  • Have clarity of what you seek from us.
  • Have clarity of what you intend to offer to the community.

Once you have become a volunteer, you can shout out your availability and we will be happy to have you.

And, we would bear your expenses for the Day.
