Attractions around the Village Most of the famous attractions in and around Kochi are within driving distance from Hinterland Village. The historic Mulanthuruthy Mar Thoman Church of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox, which was built between AD 1110 and 1125, is just 2.5 km away. Chottanikara temple, one of the most famous shrines in Kerala, is at a distance of 4 km. Less than 15 km away is Tripunithura, which used to be the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Cochin. Today it is a fairly crowded town with traces of its historical past seen especially in the magnificent Poornathrayeesa Temple, which originally belonged to the royal family, and the Hill Palace, which used to be the official residence of the royal family and is currently Kerala's largest archaeological museum. Less than 20 km away is the commercial capital of Kerala, Kochi. Kochi is a metropolitan city with busy streets and an extensive array of exclusive showrooms, shopping malls, restaurants ranging in style from the casual to the swanky, and cinema theatres. Here you can shop till you drop. The famous Cherai beach is only 38 km from Kochi. Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are just 30 Km away from Hinterland Village. These twin towns reflect the lingering aura of the colonial period in Kerala. You can see here the remnants of a mixed culture - Jewish, Dutch, French, Portuguese and English. The Jain Temple, Synagogue, Dutch Palace and St. Francis Church are famous for their historical as well as architectural importance. The Jew Street and its shopping potential are literally out of this world. Fort Kochi is also famous for its Chinese fishing nets and fish market. The Bolgatty Palace, Thrikkakara Temple, Ernakulam Siva Temple, Durbar Hall, Aluva Manappuram and Kalady, the birthplace of Adi Sankara, are all within a radius of 30 km from Hinterland Village. Kodanad Elephant Training Centre is just 35 Km away from Hinterland Village. The centre hosts a minimum of 10 elephants some of which are owned by the Forest Department of Kerala and some are privately owned. Alleppey, famous for its backwaters and waterways, is just 50 Km away from Hinterland Village. This is a tourist destination famous for its houseboat rides on the famous Vembanad Lake. Thekkady Tiger Reserve is 150 Km from Hinterland Village. The famous tea estates of Munnar are around 3 hours' drive from the Village.
